^16 (A)For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten ^(B)Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ^17 (C)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

^18 (D)“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, ^(E)that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For ^(F)everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. ²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been ^(G)done in God.”

True Vision and True Blindness

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had ^(A)found him, He said to him, “Do you ^(B)believe in ^(C)the Son of ^[a]God?”

³⁶ He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

³⁷ And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and ^(D)it is He who is talking with you.”

³⁸ Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he ^(E)worshiped Him.

³⁹ And Jesus said, ^(F)“For judgment I have come into this world, ^(G)that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, ^(H)and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, ^(I)“If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become ^(A)sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and ^(B)was hidden from them.

Who Has Believed Our Report?

³⁷ But although He had done so many ^(C)signs before them, they did not believe in Him, ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke:

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

^41 (G)These things Isaiah said ^[a]when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.

Walk in the Light

⁴² Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but ^(H)because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; ^43 (I)for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

⁴⁴ Then Jesus cried out and said, ^(J)“He who believes in Me, ^(K)believes not in Me ^(L)but in Him who sent Me. ⁴⁵ And ^(M)he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. ^46 (N)I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
