Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

¹¹ But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. ¹² And ^(A)she saw ^(B)two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. ¹³ They said to her, ^(C)“Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, ^(D)“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” ¹⁴ Having said this, she turned around and ^(E)saw Jesus standing, ^(F)but she did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said to her, ^(G)“Woman, why are you weeping? ^(H)Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be ^(I)the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” ¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic,^{[a] (J)}“Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). ¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to ^(K)my brothers and say to them, ^(L)‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to ^(M)my God and your God.’” ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene ^(N)went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

²⁵ And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ^26 (A)Was it not necessary that ^(B)the Christ should suffer these things and enter into ^(C)his glory?” ²⁷ And ^(D)beginning with ^(E)Moses and ^(F)all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

²⁸ So they drew near to the village to which they were going. ^(G)He acted as if he were going farther, ²⁹ but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and ^(H)the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. ³⁰ When he was at table with them, he took the bread and ^(I)blessed and broke it and gave it to them. ^31 (J)And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And ^(K)he vanished from their sight. ³² They said to each other, ^(L)“Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he ^(M)opened to us the Scriptures?”
