¹⁸ The Jews^(A) then responded to him, “What sign^(B) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”^(C)

¹⁰ and so the Jewish leaders^(A) said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”^(B)

The Authority of the Son

¹⁶ So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.

⁴¹ At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

⁵² Then the Jews^(A) began to argue sharply among themselves,^(B) “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Jesus Goes to the Festival of Tabernacles

7 After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want^[a] to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders^(A) there were looking for a way to kill him.^(B)

²⁴ The Jews^(A) who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”^(B)
