40 They took Jesus’s body(A) and wrapped it in linen cloths(B) with the fragrant spices, according to the burial(C) custom of the Jews. 41 There was a garden in the place where he was crucified. A new tomb was in the garden; no one had yet been placed in it. 42 They placed Jesus there because of the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby.

40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.(A) This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.(B) 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation(C) and since the tomb was nearby,(D) they laid Jesus there.
