38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

After he had said this, (A)he went back outside to the Jews and told them, (B)“I find no guilt in him. 39 (C)But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 40 They cried out again, (D)“Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.[a]

Jesus Delivered to Be Crucified

19 Then Pilate took Jesus and (E)flogged him. (F)And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that (G)I find no guilt in him.” So Jesus came out, wearing (H)the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, (I)“Behold the man!” When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, (J)“Take him yourselves and crucify him, for (K)I find no guilt in him.” The Jews[b] answered him, “We have a law, and (L)according to that law he ought to die because (M)he has made himself the Son of God.” When Pilate heard this statement, (N)he was even more afraid. (O)He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, (P)“Where are you from?” But (Q)Jesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered him, (R)“You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore (S)he who delivered me over to you (T)has the greater sin.”

12 From then on (U)Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. (V)Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” 13 So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on (W)the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic[c] Gabbatha. 14 Now it was (X)the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour.[d] He said to the Jews, (Y)“Behold your King!” 15 They cried out, (Z)“Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 (AA)So he (AB)delivered him over to them to be crucified.

The Crucifixion

So they took Jesus,

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, (A)be strong in the Lord and in (B)the strength of his might. 11 (C)Put on (D)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against (E)the schemes of the devil. 12 For (F)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against (G)the rulers, against the authorities, against (H)the cosmic powers over (I)this present darkness, against (J)the spiritual forces of evil (K)in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore (L)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in (M)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, (N)having fastened on the belt of truth, and (O)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, (P)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up (Q)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all (R)the flaming darts of (S)the evil one; 17 and take (T)the helmet of salvation, and (U)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying (V)at all times (W)in the Spirit, (X)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, (Y)keep alert with all perseverance, making (Z)supplication for all the saints, 19 and (AA)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth (AB)boldly to proclaim (AC)the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I (AD)am an ambassador (AE)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
