34 Jesus said to them, (A)“My food is (B)to do the will of him who sent me and (C)to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that (D)the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that (E)sower and (F)reaper (G)may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, (H)‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap (I)that for which you did not labour. Others have laboured, (J)and you have entered into their labour.”

39 Many Samaritans (K)from that town believed in him (L)because of (M)the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed (N)because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, (O)and we know that this is indeed (P)the Saviour (Q)of the world.”

43 After (R)the two days he departed for Galilee. 44 (For Jesus himself had testified (S)that a prophet has no honour in his own home town.) 45 So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, (T)having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For (U)they too had gone to the feast.

Jesus Heals an Official's Son

46 So he came again to (V)Cana in Galilee, (W)where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus (X)had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, (Y)“Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down (Z)before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants[a] met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour[b] the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, (AA)and all his household. 54 (AB)This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

  2. John 4:52 That is, at 1 p.m.

34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will(A) of him who sent me and to finish his work.(B) 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.(C) 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests(D) a crop for eternal life,(E) so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’(F) is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Many Samaritans Believe

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town(G) believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”(H) 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.

42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”(I)

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

43 After the two days(J) he left for Galilee. 44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)(K) 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(L) for they also had been there.

46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine.(M) And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea,(N) he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.

48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,”(O) Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”

The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”

53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household(P) believed.

54 This was the second sign(Q) Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.
