³ Tell it to your children,^(A)
    and let your children tell it to their children,
    and their children to the next generation.^(B)

¹ We have heard it with our ears,^(A) O God;
    our ancestors have told us^(B)
what you did in their days,
    in days long ago.^(C)

³ things we have heard and known,
    things our ancestors have told us.^(A)
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;^(B)
    we will tell the next generation^(C)
the praiseworthy deeds^(D) of the Lord,
    his power, and the wonders^(E) he has done.
⁵ He decreed statutes^(F) for Jacob^(G)
    and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
    to teach their children,
⁶ so the next generation would know them,
    even the children yet to be born,^(H)
    and they in turn would tell their children.
⁷ Then they would put their trust in God
    and would not forget^(I) his deeds
    but would keep his commands.^(J)
8 They would not be like their ancestors^(K)—
    a stubborn^(L) and rebellious^(M) generation,
whose hearts were not loyal to God,
    whose spirits were not faithful to him.
