⁴ His children are ^(A)far from safety;
    they are crushed in ^(B)the gate,
    and there is no one to deliver them.

⁵ Blessed is the man
    who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
    when he speaks with his enemies ^(A)in the gate.^[a]

^155 (A)Salvation is far from the wicked,
    ^(B)for they do not seek your statutes.

¹² For I know how many are your transgressions
    and how great are your sins—
you who afflict the righteous, who ^(A)take a bribe,
    and ^(B)turn aside the needy ^(C)in the gate.

⁹ May his ^(A)children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow!
¹⁰ May his children ^(B)wander about and beg,
    ^(C)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
¹¹ May ^(D)the creditor seize all that he has;
    may ^(E)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
¹² Let there be none to ^(F)extend kindness to him,
    nor any to ^(G)pity his fatherless children!
¹³ May his ^(H)posterity be cut off;
    may his ^(I)name be blotted out in the second generation!
¹⁴ May ^(J)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
    and let not the sin of his mother be ^(K)blotted out!
^15 (L)Let them be before the Lord continually,
    that he may ^(M)cut off the memory of them from the earth!

² lest like ^(A)a lion they tear my soul apart,
    rending it in pieces, with ^(B)none to deliver.

¹⁴ If his ^(A)children are multiplied, it is for ^(B)the sword,
    and his descendants have not enough bread.

¹⁶ His ^(A)roots dry up beneath,
    and his branches ^(B)wither above.
¹⁷ His ^(C)memory perishes from the earth,
    and he has no name in the street.
^18 (D)He is thrust from light into darkness,
    and driven out of the world.
¹⁹ He has no ^(E)posterity or progeny among his people,
    and no survivor where he used to live.
