Jeremiah 38:4-6
Legacy Standard Bible
4 Then the (A)officials said to the king, “Now let this man be put to death, inasmuch as he is (B)making the hands of the men of war who remain in this city as well as the hands of all the people limp, by speaking such words to them; for this man (C)is not seeking peace for this people but rather calamity.” 5 So King Zedekiah said, “Behold, he is in your [a]hands; for the king (D)can do nothing against you.” 6 Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the [b](E)cistern of Malchijah the king’s son, which was in the court of the guard; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only (F)mire, and Jeremiah sank into the mire.

New International Version
4 Then the officials(A) said to the king, “This man should be put to death.(B) He is discouraging(C) the soldiers who are left in this city, as well as all the people, by the things he is saying to them. This man is not seeking the good of these people but their ruin.”
5 “He is in your hands,”(D) King Zedekiah answered. “The king can do nothing(E) to oppose you.”
6 So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard.(F) They lowered Jeremiah by ropes(G) into the cistern; it had no water in it,(H) only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.(I)
Jeremiah 38:4-6
New King James Version
4 Therefore the princes said to the king, “Please, (A)let this man be put to death, for thus he [a]weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man does not seek the [b]welfare of this people, but their harm.”
5 Then Zedekiah the king said, “Look, he is in your hand. For the king can do nothing against you.” 6 (B)So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah [c]the king’s son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.
