² “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘^(A)Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Behold, ^(B)I am handing this city over to the king of Babylon, and ^(C)he will burn it with fire.

Jerusalem Captured

39 ^[a]Now when Jerusalem was captured ^[b](A)in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it;

² in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city wall was ^(A)breached.

⁸ The Chaldeans also ^(A)burned the king’s palace and the houses of the people with fire, and they ^(B)tore down the walls of Jerusalem.

⁷ Then the city was ^(A)breached, and all the ^(B)warriors fled and left the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls which was by the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were ^[a](C)all around the city. And they went by way of the Arabah.

¹³ And he ^(A)burned the house of the Lord, the ^(B)king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every large house he burned with fire.
