⁸ “Many nations will pass by this city; and they will ^(A)say to one another, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this great city?’ ⁹ Then they will ^[a]answer, ‘Because they ^(B)abandoned the covenant of the Lord their God and bowed down to other gods and served them.’”

²² So the Lord was ^(A)no longer able to endure it, ^(B)because of the evil of your deeds, because of the abominations which you have committed; so your land has become a ^(C)place of ruins, an object of horror, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

¹⁸ Therefore I ^(A)poured out My wrath on them for the blood which they had shed on the land, because they had defiled it with their idols. ¹⁹ I also ^(B)scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the lands. ^(C)According to their ways and their deeds I judged them.
