Gods boodschap aan Baruch
45 Dit is de boodschap die Jeremia Baruch gaf in het vierde regeringsjaar van koning Jojakim, de zoon van Josia, nadat Baruch al Gods boodschappen had opgeschreven, zoals Jeremia ze hem dicteerde: 2 ‘Baruch, de Here God van Israël zegt dit tegen u: 3 “U hebt gezegd: ik kan het niet meer aan! Heb ik al geen moeilijkheden genoeg? Nu geeft de Here mij nog meer! Ik ben uitgeput door mijn verdriet en vind nergens rust.
4 Maar vertel Baruch dit: de Here zegt: Ik zal dit volk dat Ik heb opgebouwd, verwoesten. Wat Ik heb geplant, zal Ik uitrukken. 5 Zou u voor uzelf iets bijzonders nastreven? Doe dat niet, want Ik zal een groot onheil over dit hele volk brengen. Maar uw leven zal Ik beschermen, waar u ook heen gaat.” ’

De Heer bemoedigt Baruch
45 Dit is wat ik van de Heer moest zeggen tegen Baruch, toen Baruch alles in een boekrol had opgeschreven. In die tijd was Jojakim vier jaar koning van Juda. 2 Ik zei tegen Baruch: "Dit zegt de Heer, de God van Israël, tegen jou, Baruch: 3 Jij zegt: 'Verschrikkelijk! Ik kan er niet meer tegen! De Heer heeft mij zoveel pijn en verdriet bezorgd. Ik heb genoeg van alle ellende. Nooit heb ik rust!' 4 Maar dit zegt de Heer: Wat Ik had opgebouwd, breek Ik nu Zelf af. En wat Ik had geplant, ruk Ik nu Zelf uit. Dat doe Ik met dit hele land. Ik zal alle bewoners van dit land vernietigen. 5 Zou jij dan voor jezelf grote dingen verlangen? Doe dat niet! Want Ik ga het hele land treffen met mijn rampen, zegt de Heer. Maar Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat jij in leven blijft, waar je ook gaat."

A Message to Baruch
45 When Baruch(A) son of Neriah(B) wrote on a scroll(C) the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(D) son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You said, ‘Woe(E) to me! The Lord has added sorrow(F) to my pain;(G) I am worn out with groaning(H) and find no rest.’(I) 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot(J) what I have planted,(K) throughout the earth.(L) 5 Should you then seek great(M) things for yourself? Do not seek them.(N) For I will bring disaster(O) on all people,(P) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape(Q) with your life.’”(R)

45 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch:
3 Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
4 Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
