Jérémie s’adresse à Baruch
45 Voici ce que le prophète Jérémie dit à Baruch, fils de Nériya, quand celui-ci écrivit ces paroles dans un rouleau sous la dictée de Jérémie[a], la quatrième année du règne de Yehoyaqim[b], fils de Josias, roi de Juda : 2 Voici, Baruch, ce que te déclare l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël : 3 Tu as dit : « Malheur à moi, car l’Eternel accumule pour moi tourments et affliction ! Je suis épuisé à force de gémir et je ne trouve plus de repos. »
4 Tu lui diras donc ceci : Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel : Regarde. Ce que j’avais bâti, je le détruis, et ce que j’avais planté, je l’arrache. Il en est ainsi à travers tout le pays. 5 Et toi, tu as pour toi-même des ambitions ? N’y songe pas ! Car je fais venir le malheur sur tout le monde, l’Eternel le déclare. Mais je t’accorde la vie sauve partout où tu iras. Tu auras au moins cette part-là.

God’s Piling On the Pain
45 This is what Jeremiah told Baruch one day in the fourth year of Jehoiakim’s reign as he was taking dictation from the prophet:
2-3 “These are the words of God, the God of Israel, to you, Baruch. You say, ‘These are bad times for me! It’s one thing after another. God is piling on the pain. I’m worn out and there’s no end in sight.’
4-5 “But God says, ‘Look around. What I’ve built I’m about to wreck, and what I’ve planted I’m about to rip up. And I’m doing it everywhere—all over the whole earth! So forget about making any big plans for yourself. Things are going to get worse before they get better. But don’t worry. I’ll keep you alive through the whole business.’”

A Message to Baruch
45 When Baruch(A) son of Neriah(B) wrote on a scroll(C) the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(D) son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You said, ‘Woe(E) to me! The Lord has added sorrow(F) to my pain;(G) I am worn out with groaning(H) and find no rest.’(I) 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot(J) what I have planted,(K) throughout the earth.(L) 5 Should you then seek great(M) things for yourself? Do not seek them.(N) For I will bring disaster(O) on all people,(P) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape(Q) with your life.’”(R)
