⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, ^(A)or walk after other gods to your hurt,

¹⁰ This evil people, who ^(A)refuse to hear My words, who ^(B)follow^[a] the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing.

¹⁹ Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, ^(A)I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.

^21 (A)“You shall neither mistreat a ^[a]stranger nor oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

^22 (B)“You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they ^(C)cry at all to Me, I will surely ^(D)hear their cry; ²⁴ and My ^(E)wrath will become hot, and I will kill you with the sword; ^(F)your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

⁹ “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

¹¹ “But they refused to heed, ^(D)shrugged^[b] their shoulders, and ^(E)stopped^[c] their ears so that they could not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their ^(F)hearts like flint, ^(G)refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. ^(H)Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.

²⁸ and the ^(A)curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.

¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods, ^(A)the gods of the peoples who are all around you ¹⁵ (for ^(B)the Lord your God is a jealous God ^(C)among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.

^27 (A)Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: ^(B)to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, ^(C)and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
