³⁷ Thus says the Lord:

²⁴ “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have ^(A)despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

²⁵ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If ^(B)My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not ^(C)appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ^26 (D)then I will ^(E)cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’ ”

Israel’s Rejection Not Total

11 I say then, ^(A)has God cast away His people? ^(B)Certainly not! For ^(C)I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God has not cast away His people whom ^(D)He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, ^3 (E)“Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? ⁴ But what does the divine response say to him? ^(F)“I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” ^5 (G)Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

²² As ^(A)the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I ^(B)multiply the descendants of David My servant and the ^(C)Levites who minister to Me.’ ”

²⁶ And so all Israel will be ^[a]saved, as it is written:

²⁸ Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are ^(C)beloved for the sake of the fathers. ²⁹ For the gifts and the calling of God are ^(D)irrevocable.
