²⁷ who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, ^(A)as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

Othniel

⁷ So the children of Israel did ^(A)evil in the sight of the Lord. They ^(B)forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and ^[a]Asherahs.

⁸ But ^(A)Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) ^[a]withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

³ For he rebuilt the ^[a]high places ^(A)which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a ^[b]wooden image, ^(B)as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he ^(C)worshiped all ^[c]the host of heaven and served them.

Israel Oppressed Again

⁶ Then ^(A)the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and ^(B)served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, ^(C)the gods of Syria, the gods of ^(D)Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the people of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him.

Punishment of Apostates

13 “If there arises among you a prophet or a ^(A)dreamer of dreams, ^(B)and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and ^(C)the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ ³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God ^(D)is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall ^(E)walk^[a] after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and ^(F)hold fast to Him. ⁵ But ^(G)that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. ^(H)So you shall ^[b]put away the evil from your midst.

⁶ For ^(A)of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, ⁷ always learning and never able ^(B)to come to the knowledge of the truth. ^8 (C)Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: ^(D)men of corrupt minds, ^(E)disapproved concerning the faith;
