James 1:18-25

18 (A)Of His own will He brought us forth by the (B)word of truth, (C)that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

19 [a]So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, (D)slow to speak, (E)slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Doers—Not Hearers Only
21 Therefore (F)lay aside all filthiness and [b]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, (G)which is able to save your souls.
22 But (H)be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For (I)if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But (J)he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, (K)this one will be blessed in what he does.

Hearing and Doing the Word
19 (E)Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person (F)be quick to hear, (G)slow to speak, (H)slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore (I)put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with (J)meekness the implanted word, (K)which is able to save your souls.
22 But be (L)doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, (M)the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, (N)he will be blessed in his doing.
