²⁵ On this account, the ^(A)anger of Yahweh has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down.
And the ^(B)mountains trembled, and their ^(C)corpses ^[a]lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.
^(D)For all this His anger is not turned back,
But His ^(E)hand is still stretched out.

²⁶ He will also lift up a ^(F)standard to the ^[b]distant nations,
And will ^(G)whistle for it ^(H)from the ends of the earth;
And behold, it will ^(I)come with speed swiftly.
^27 (J)No one in it is weary or stumbles,
None slumbers or sleeps;
Nor is the ^(K)belt at its waist undone,
Nor its sandal strap broken.
^28 [c](L)Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent;
The hoofs of its horses ^[d]seem like flint and its chariot ^(M)wheels like a whirlwind.
²⁹ Its ^(N)roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions;
It growls and ^(O)seizes the prey
And carries it off with ^(P)no one to deliver it.
³⁰ And it will ^(Q)growl over it in that day like the roaring of the sea.
If one ^(R)looks to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress;
Even the light is darkened by its clouds.

¹² Alas, the uproar of many peoples
^(A)Who roar like the roaring of the seas,
And the rumbling of nations
Who rumble on like the ^(B)rumbling of mighty waters!
¹³ The ^(C)nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters,
But He will ^(D)rebuke them, and they will flee far away,
And be pursued ^(E)like chaff in the mountains before the wind,
Or like whirling dust before a whirlwind.
¹⁴ At evening time, behold, there is terror!
Before morning ^(F)they are no more.
^[a]Such will be the portion of those who pillage us
And the lot of those who plunder us.
