Isaiah 37:27-29

²⁷Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

²⁸But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

²⁹Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

    are dismayed and confounded,
and have become like plants of the field
    and like tender grass,
like grass on the housetops,
    blighted^[a] before it is grown.

²⁸“‘I know your sitting down
    and your going out and coming in,
    and your raging against me.
²⁹^(A)Because you have raged against me
    and your complacency has come to my ears,
I will put my hook in your nose
    and my bit in your mouth,
and ^(B)I will turn you back on the way
    by which you came.’

They were shattered and put to shame;
They were like the ^(A)vegetation of the field and the green grass,
Like ^(B)grass on the housetops ^[b]that is scorched before it has grown.
²⁸But I ^(C)know your sitting down,
Your going out, your coming in,
And your raging against Me.
²⁹Because of your raging against Me
And because your ^(D)complacency has come up to My ears,
I will put My ^(E)hook in your nose
