Isaiah 35:2-4
New English Translation

2 Let it richly bloom;[a]
let it rejoice and shout with delight![b]
It is given the grandeur[c] of Lebanon,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon.
They will see the grandeur of the Lord,
the splendor of our God.
3 Strengthen the hands that have gone limp,
steady the knees that shake.[d]
4 Tell those who panic,[e]
“Be strong! Do not fear!
Look, your God comes to avenge;
with divine retribution he comes to deliver you.”[f]

  1. Isaiah 35:2 tn The ambiguous verb form תִּפְרַח (tifrakh) is translated as a jussive because it is parallel to the jussive form תָגֵל (tagel).
  2. Isaiah 35:2 tn Heb “and let it rejoice, yes [with] rejoicing and shouting.” גִּילַת (gilat) may be an archaic feminine nominal form (see GKC 421 §130.b).
  3. Isaiah 35:2 tn Or “glory” (KJV, NIV, NRSV); also a second time later in this verse.

    it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.(A)
The glory of Lebanon(B) will be given to it,
    the splendor of Carmel(C) and Sharon;(D)
they will see the glory(E) of the Lord,

3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
    steady the knees(G) that give way;
4 say(H) to those with fearful hearts,(I)
    “Be strong, do not fear;(J)
your God will come,(K)

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
