Isaiah 1:2-4

Judah on Trial
2 Listen, heavens, and pay attention, earth,(A)
for the Lord has spoken:
‘I have raised children[a] and brought them up,
but they have rebelled against me.(B)
3 The ox knows its owner,
and the donkey its master’s feeding trough,
but Israel does not know;
my people do not understand.’(C)
4 Oh sinful nation,
people weighed down with iniquity,(D)
brood of evildoers,(E)
depraved children!
They have abandoned(F) the Lord;
they have despised(G) the Holy One of Israel;(H)
they have turned their backs on him.

2 (A)Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
For the Lord has spoken:
“I have nourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against Me;
3 (B)The ox knows its owner
And the donkey its master’s [a]crib;
But Israel (C)does not know,
My people do not [b]consider.”
4 Alas, sinful nation,
A people [c]laden with iniquity,
(D)A [d]brood of evildoers,
Children who are corrupters!
They have forsaken the Lord,
They have provoked to anger
The Holy One of Israel,
They have turned away backward.
