²⁰ You will not be joined with them in burial
    because you have destroyed your land;
    you have killed your people.

¹⁰ You will destroy their offspring from the earth
    and their children from among humankind.^(A)

¹⁹ They have no offspring or descendant among their people
    and no survivor where they used to live.^(A)

¹³ May his posterity be cut off;
    may his name be blotted out in the second generation.^(A)

²⁸ For the Lord loves justice;
    he will not forsake his faithful ones.

¹⁵ Whoever is found will be thrust through,
    and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.
¹⁶ Their infants will be dashed to pieces
    before their eyes;
their houses will be plundered
    and their wives raped.^(A)
17 See, I am stirring up the Medes against them,
    who have no regard for silver
    and do not delight in gold.^(B)
18 Their bows will slaughter the young men;
    they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb;
    their eyes will not pity children.^(C)
19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms,
    the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans,
will be like Sodom and Gomorrah
    when God overthrew them.^(D)

⁸ O daughter Babylon, you devastator!^[a]
    Happy shall they be who pay you back
    what you have done to us!^(A)
9 Happy shall they be who take your little ones
    and dash them against the rock!^(B)

¹⁶ Their roots dry up beneath,
    and their branches wither above.^(A)
