1 Timothy 6:3-16
New American Standard Bible
3 If anyone (A)advocates a different doctrine and does not [a]agree with (B)sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine (C)conforming to godliness, 4 he is (D)conceited and understands nothing; but he [b]has a sick craving for (E)controversial questions and (F)disputes about words, from which come envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction between (G)people of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who (H)suppose that [c]godliness is a means of gain. 6 (I)But godliness actually is a means of (J)great gain when accompanied by (K)contentment. 7 For (L)we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. 8 If we (M)have food and [d]covering, with these we shall be content. 9 (N)But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and (O)a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For (P)the love of money is a root of all [e]sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have (Q)wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many [f]griefs.
11 But (R)flee from these things, you (S)man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, (T)faith, (U)love, [g]perseverance, and gentleness. 12 (V)Fight the good fight of (W)faith; (X)take hold of the eternal life (Y)to which you were called, and for which you made the good (Z)confession in the presence of (AA)many witnesses. 13 (AB)I direct you in the presence of God, who [h]gives life to all things, and of (AC)Christ Jesus, who testified the (AD)good confession (AE)before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without [i]fault or reproach until the (AF)appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which He will [j]bring about at (AG)the proper time—He who is (AH)the blessed and (AI)only Sovereign, (AJ)the King of [k]kings and (AK)Lord of [l]lords, 16 (AL)who alone possesses immortality and (AM)dwells in unapproachable light, (AN)whom [m]no one has seen or can see. (AO)To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
