3 See ^(A)what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called ^(B)children of God; and so we are. The reason why ^(C)the world does not know us is that ^(D)it did not know him. ² Beloved, we are ^(E)God's children ^(F)now, and what we will be ^(G)has not yet appeared; but we know that ^(H)when he appears^{[a] (I)}we shall be like him, because ^(J)we shall see him as he is. ³ And everyone who ^(K)thus hopes in him ^(L)purifies himself as he is pure.

⁴ and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of ^(A)the Spirit and of power, ⁵ so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men^[a] but ^(B)in the power of God.

Wisdom from the Spirit

⁶ Yet among ^(C)the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not ^(D)a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, ^(E)who are doomed to pass away. ⁷ But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, ^(F)which God decreed before the ages for our glory. ⁸ None of ^(G)the rulers of this age understood this, for ^(H)if they had, they would not have crucified ^(I)the Lord of glory. ⁹ But, as it is written,

¹⁰ these things ^(M)God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even ^(N)the depths of God. ¹¹ For who knows a person's thoughts ^(O)except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

²² For we know that ^(A)the whole creation ^(B)has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. ²³ And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have ^(C)the firstfruits of the Spirit, ^(D)groan inwardly as ^(E)we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, ^(F)the redemption of our bodies.
