Hebrews 9:8-10
New International Reader's Version
8 Here is what the Holy Spirit was showing us. He was telling us that God had not yet clearly shown the way into the Most Holy Room. It would not be clearly shown as long as the first holy tent was still being used. 9 That’s an example for the present time. It shows us that the gifts and sacrifices people offered were not enough. They were not able to remove the worshiper’s feelings of guilt. 10 They deal only with food and drink and different kinds of special washings. They are rules people had to obey only until the new covenant came.

Hebrews 9:8-10
New International Version
8 The Holy Spirit was showing(A) by this that the way(B) into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an illustration(C) for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered(D) were not able to clear the conscience(E) of the worshiper. 10 They are only a matter of food(F) and drink(G) and various ceremonial washings(H)—external regulations(I) applying until the time of the new order.
Hebrews 9:8-10
English Standard Version
8 By this the Holy Spirit indicates that (A)the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing 9 (which is symbolic for the present age).[a] According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered (B)that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, 10 but deal only with (C)food and drink and (D)various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.
