1 En el año segundo del rey Darío, en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, vino palabra del SEÑOR, por mano del profeta Hageo, a Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, diciendo:
2 El SEÑOR de los ejércitos habla así, diciendo: Este pueblo dice: No es aún venido el tiempo, el tiempo para edificar la Casa del SEÑOR.
3 Vino pues palabra del SEÑOR por mano del profeta Hageo, diciendo:
4 ¿Tenéis vosotros tiempo, vosotros, de morar en vuestras casas enmaderadas, y esta Casa está desierta?
5 Pues así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Pensad bien sobre vuestros caminos.
6 Sembráis mucho, y encerráis poco; coméis, y no os hartáis; bebéis, y no os saciáis; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que anda a jornal recibe su jornal en saco roto.
7 Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Pensad bien sobre vuestros caminos.
8 Subid al monte, y traed madera, y edificad la Casa; y pondré en ella mi voluntad, y seré glorificado, dijo el SEÑOR.
9 Buscáis mucho, y halláis poco; y cuando encerráis en casa, yo lo soplaré. ¿Por qué? Dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi Casa está desierta, y cada uno de vosotros corre a su propia casa.
10 Por eso se detuvo la lluvia de los cielos sobre vosotros, y la tierra detuvo sus frutos.
11 Y llamé la sequedad sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, y sobre el trigo, y sobre el vino, y sobre el aceite, y sobre todo lo que la tierra produce; y sobre los hombres, y sobre las bestias, y sobre todo trabajo de manos.
12 Y oyó Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y todo el remanente del pueblo, la voz del SEÑOR su Dios, y las palabras del profeta Hageo, como lo había enviado el SEÑOR Dios de ellos; y temió el pueblo delante del SEÑOR.
13 Y habló Hageo, embajador del SEÑOR, en la embajada del SEÑOR, al pueblo, diciendo: Yo soy con vosotros, dijo el SEÑOR.
14 Y despertó el SEÑOR el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el remanente del pueblo; y vinieron e hicieron obra en la Casa del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, su Dios,
15 en el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built.
3 Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.
13 Then spake Haggai the Lord's messenger in the Lord's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord.
14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,
15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

The Command to Rebuild the Temple
1 (A)In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to (B)Zerubbabel the son of (C)Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to (D)Joshua the son of (E)Jehozadak, the high priest: 2 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” 3 Then the word of the Lord came (F)by the hand of Haggai the prophet, 4 (G)“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while (H)this house lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: (I)Consider your ways. 6 (J)You have sown much, and harvested little. (K)You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who (L)earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.
7 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: (M)Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that (N)I may take pleasure in it and that (O)I may be glorified, says the Lord. 9 (P)You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, (Q)I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house (R)that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. 10 Therefore (S)the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 And (T)I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on (U)the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and (V)on all their labors.”
The People Obey the Lord
12 (W)Then (X)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and (Y)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all (Z)the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord. 13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, (AA)“I am with you, declares the Lord.” 14 And (AB)the Lord stirred up the spirit of (AC)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of (AD)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all (AE)the remnant of the people. And they came and (AF)worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God, 15 (AG)on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
