Oracoli contro Moab

48 Su Moab.
Così dice il Signore degli eserciti,
Dio di Israele:
«Guai a Nebo poiché è devastata,
piena di vergogna e catturata è Kiriatàim;
sente vergogna, è abbattuta la roccaforte.
2 Non esiste più la fama di Moab;
in Chesbòn tramano contro di essa:
Venite ed eliminiamola dalle nazioni.
Anche tu, Madmèn, sarai demolita,
la spada ti inseguirà.
3 Una voce, un grido da Coronàim:
Devastazione e rovina grande!
4 Abbattuto è Moab,
le grida si fanno sentire fino in Zoar.
5 Su per la salita di Luchìt vanno piangendo,
giù per la discesa di Coronàim
si ode un grido di disfatta.
6 Fuggite, salvate la vostra vita!
Siate come l'asino selvatico nel deserto.
7 Poiché hai posto la fiducia
nelle tue fortezze e nei tuoi tesori,
anche tu sarai preso e Camos andrà in esilio
insieme con i suoi sacerdoti e con i suoi capi.
8 Il devastatore verrà contro ogni città;
nessuna città potrà scampare.
Sarà devastata la valle e la pianura desolata,
come dice il Signore.
9 Date ali a Moab,
perché dovrà prendere il volo.
Le sue città diventeranno un deserto,
perché non vi sarà alcun abitante.
10 Maledetto chi compie fiaccamente l'opera del Signore,
maledetto chi trattiene la spada dal sangue!
11 Moab era tranquillo fin dalla giovinezza,
riposava come vino sulla sua feccia,
non è stato travasato di botte in botte,
né è mai andato in esilio;
per questo gli è rimasto il suo sapore,
il suo profumo non si è alterato.
12 Per questo, ecco, giorni verranno
- dice il Signore -
nei quali gli manderò travasatori a travasarlo,
vuoteranno le sue botti
e frantumeranno i suoi otri.

13 Moab si vergognerà di Camos come la casa di Israele si è vergognata di Betel, oggetto della sua fiducia.

14 Come potete dire:
Noi siamo uomini prodi
e uomini valorosi per la battaglia?
15 Il devastatore di Moab sale contro di lui,
i suoi giovani migliori scendono al macello -

18 Scendi dalla tua gloria, siedi sull'arido suolo,
o popolo che abiti a Dibon;
poiché il devastatore di Moab è salito contro di te,
egli ha distrutto le tue fortezze.
19 Stà sulla strada e osserva,
tu che abiti in Aroer.
Interroga il fuggiasco e lo scampato,
domanda: Che cosa è successo?
20 Moab prova vergogna, è in rovina;
urlate, gridate,
annunziate sull'Arnon
che Moab è devastato.

21 E' arrivato il giudizio per la regione dell'altipiano, per Colòn, per Iaaz e per Mefàat, 22 per Dibon, per Nebo e per Bet-Diblatàim, 23 per Kiriatàim, per Bet-Gamùl e per Bet-Meòn, 24 per Kiriòt e per Bozra, per tutte le città della regione di Moab, lontane e vicine.

25 E' infranta la potenza di Moab
ed è rotto il suo braccio.

26 Inebriatelo, perché si è levato contro il Signore, e Moab si rotolerà nel vomito e anch'esso diventerà oggetto di scherno. 27 Non è stato forse Israele per te oggetto di scherno? Fu questi forse sorpreso fra i ladri, dato che quando parli di lui scuoti sempre la testa?

28 Abbandonate le città e abitate nelle rupi,
abitanti di Moab,
siate come la colomba che fa il nido
nelle pareti d'una gola profonda.
29 Abbiamo udito l'orgoglio di Moab,
il grande orgoglioso,
la sua superbia, il suo orgoglio, la sua alterigia,
l'altezzosità del suo cuore.

30 Conosco bene la sua tracotanza - dice il Signore - l'inconsistenza delle sue chiacchiere, le sue opere vane. 31 Per questo alzo un lamento su Moab, grido per tutto Moab, gemo per gli uomini di Kir-Cheres.

32 Io piango per te come per Iazèr,
o vigna di Sibma!
I tuoi tralci arrivavano al mare,
giungevano fino a Iazèr.
Sulle tue frutta e sulla tua vendemmia
è piombato il devastatore.
33 Sono scomparse la gioia e l'allegria
dai frutteti e dalla regione di Moab.
E' sparito il vino nei tini,
non pigia più il pigiatore,
il canto di gioia non è più canto di gioia.

34 Delle grida di Chesbòn e di Elealè si diffonde l'eco fino a Iacaz; da Zoar si odono grida fino a Coronàim e a Eglat-Selisià, poiché le acque di Nimrìm son diventate una zona desolata. 35 Io farò scomparire in Moab - dice il Signore - chi sale sulle alture e chi brucia incenso ai suoi dei. 36 Perciò il mio cuore per Moab geme come i flauti, il mio cuore geme come i flauti per gli uomini di Kir-Cheres, essendo venute meno le loro scorte. 37 Poiché ogni testa è rasata, ogni barba è tagliata; ci sono incisioni su tutte le mani e tutti hanno i fianchi cinti di sacco. 38 Sopra tutte le terrazze di Moab e nelle sue piazze è tutto un lamento, perché io ho spezzato Moab come un vaso senza valore. Parola del Signore. 39 Come è rovinato! Gridate! Come Moab ha voltato vergognosamente le spalle! Moab è diventato oggetto di scherno e di orrore per tutti i suoi vicini.

40 Poiché così dice il Signore:
Ecco, come l'aquila egli spicca il volo
e spande le ali su Moab.
41 Le città son prese, le fortezze sono occupate.
In quel giorno il cuore dei prodi di Moab
sarà come il cuore di donna nei dolori del parto.
42 Moab è distrutto, ha cessato d'essere popolo,
perché si è insuperbito contro il Signore.
43 Terrore, trabocchetto, tranello
cadranno su di te, abitante di Moab.
Oracolo del Signore.
44 Chi sfugge al terrore cadrà nel trabocchetto;
chi risale dal trabocchetto
sarà preso nel tranello,
perché io manderò sui Moabiti tutto questo
nell'anno del loro castigo.
Oracolo del Signore.
45 All'ombra di Chesbòn si fermano
spossati i fuggiaschi,
ma un fuoco esce da Chesbòn,
una fiamma dal palazzo di Sicòn
e divora le tempie di Moab
e il cranio di uomini turbolenti.
46 Guai a te, Moab,
sei perduto, popolo di Camos,
poiché i tuoi figli sono condotti schiavi,
le tue figlie portate in esilio.
47 Ma io cambierò la sorte di Moab
negli ultimi giorni.
Oracolo del Signore».

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel:

«¡Ay de Nebo(B), porque ha sido destruida!
Quiriataim(C) ha sido avergonzada, ha sido tomada;
La altiva fortaleza[a] ha sido avergonzada y destrozada[b].
2 -»Ya no hay alabanza para Moab,
En Hesbón(D) han tramado mal contra ella:
“Vengan y quitémosla de entre las naciones”.
También tú, Madmena[c], serás silenciada,
La espada te seguirá.
3 -»Voz de clamor desde Horonaim:
“Devastación y gran destrucción(E)”.
4 -»Moab está quebrantada,
Sus pequeños dejan oír gritos de angustia.
5 -»Porque la cuesta de Luhit
La suben con llanto continuo;
Porque a la bajada de Horonaim
Se oyen gritos angustiosos[d] de destrucción(F).
6 -»Huyan, salven sus vidas(G),
Sean como un arbusto[e] en el desierto.
7 -»Por cuanto pusiste tu confianza en tus ganancias y en tus tesoros(H),
También tú serás conquistada(I),
Quemos, tu dios, saldrá al destierro
Junto con sus sacerdotes y sus príncipes.
8 -»Vendrá el destructor de cada ciudad,
Y ninguna ciudad escapará;
También el valle será devastado(J),
Y la meseta será destruida,
Como ha dicho el Señor.
9 -»Den alas[f] a Moab,
Para que se escape[g](K);
Sus ciudades serán una desolación(L),
Sin que nadie habite en ellas.
10 -»Maldito(M) el que hace la obra del Señor con engaño;
Maldito el que retrae su espada(N) de la sangre(O).
11 ¶»Reposada ha estado Moab desde su juventud(P),
Ha estado tranquila sobre su sedimento(Q);
No ha sido vaciada de vasija en vasija(R),
Ni ha ido al destierro;
Por eso retiene su sabor[h],
Y su aroma no ha cambiado.

12 Por tanto, vienen días», declara el Señor, «cuando le enviaré gente que lo trasvasarán; vaciarán sus vasijas y harán pedazos sus cántaros. 13 Y Moab se avergonzará(S) de Quemos(T), como la casa de Israel se avergonzó de Betel[i], su confianza(U).

14 -»¿Cómo pueden decir: “Somos poderosos guerreros,
Y hombres valientes(V) para la guerra”?
15 -»Es destruida Moab, el devastador ha subido a sus ciudades;
La flor de sus jóvenes[j] desciende a la matanza(W)»,
Declara el Rey, cuyo nombre es el Señor de los ejércitos(X).
16 «La ruina de Moab vendrá pronto,
Y su calamidad se ha apresurado(Y).
17 -»Lloren por él, todos los que habitan a su alrededor,
Y todos los que saben su nombre.
Digan: “¡Cómo se ha roto el poderoso cetro[k](Z),
El báculo glorioso!”.
18 -»Desciende de tu gloria,
Siéntate en tierra(AA) reseca[l],
Moradora(AB) hija de Dibón,
Porque el destructor de Moab(AC) ha subido contra ti,
Para destruir tus fortalezas.
19 -»Párate junto al camino y vela,
Moradora de Aroer(AD);
Pregunta al que huye y a la que escapa,
Y di: “¿Qué ha sucedido(AE)?”.
20 -»Avergonzada está Moab porque ha sido destrozada[m].
Den gemidos y clamen;
Anuncien junto al Arnón
Que Moab(AF) ha sido destruida.

21 También ha venido juicio sobre la llanura, sobre Holón, sobre Jahaza(AG) y contra Mefaat(AH), 22 contra Dibón, contra Nebo y contra Bet Deblataim, 23 contra Quiriataim, contra Bet Gamul y contra Bet Meón(AI), 24 contra Queriot, contra Bosra y contra todas las ciudades de la tierra de Moab(AJ), las lejanas y las cercanas. 25 El cuerno[n](AK) de Moab ha sido cortado y quebrado su brazo(AL)», declara el Señor. 26 «Embriáguenlo(AM), porque se ha vuelto arrogante con[o] el Señor. Moab(AN) se revolcará en su vómito, y será también objeto de burla. 27 ¿Acaso no fue Israel objeto de burla para ti(AO)? ¿O fue sorprendido[p] entre ladrones(AP)? Porque cada vez que hablas de él, te burlas[q](AQ).

28 -»Abandonen las ciudades y moren en las peñas,
Moradores de Moab,
Sean como paloma(AR) que anida
Más allá de la boca de la caverna[r](AS).
29 -»Hemos oído del orgullo de Moab (es muy orgulloso),
De su soberbia, de su orgullo, de su arrogancia y de su altivez[s](AT).
30 -»Yo conozco su cólera(AU)», declara el Señor,
«Pero es inútil[t];
Sus vanas jactancias nada[u] consiguen.
31 -»Por tanto, gemiré por Moab,
Sí, por todo Moab clamaré;
Sollozaré[v] por los hombres de Kir Hares(AV).
32 -»Más que el llanto por Jazer
Lloraré por ti, viña de Sibma.
Tus sarmientos pasaron el mar(AW),
Llegaron hasta el mar de Jazer(AX);
Sobre tus frutos de verano y sobre tu vendimia
Ha caído el destructor,
33 Y fueron quitados la alegría y el regocijo
Del campo fértil, de la tierra de Moab.
He hecho que se acabe el vino de los lagares(AY);
Nadie los pisará con gritos(AZ) de regocijo,
Y si hay gritos no serán gritos de júbilo.

34 El clamor de Hesbón llega hasta Eleale y hasta Jahaza; levantaron[w] su voz, desde Zoar hasta Horonaim(BA) y hasta Eglat Selisiya; porque también las aguas de Nimrim(BB) se secarán[x](BC). 35 Y haré desaparecer de Moab», declara el Señor, «al que ofrece sacrificios en lugar alto(BD) y al que quema incienso a sus dioses(BE).

36 »Por tanto, Mi corazón gime[y] por Moab como una flauta[z]; Mi corazón(BF) gime[aa] también como una flauta[ab] por los hombres de Kir Hares, ya que perdieron la abundancia que se había producido(BG). 37 Porque toda cabeza está rapada y toda barba rasurada(BH); en todas las manos hay sajaduras y sobre los lomos cilicio(BI). 38 En todas las terrazas(BJ) de Moab y en sus calles todo es lamentación, porque he quebrado a Moab como a vaso indeseable», declara el Señor(BK). 39 «¡Cómo ha sido destrozada[ac]! ¡Cómo ha gemido! ¡Cómo ha vuelto la espalda Moab avergonzada! Moab será, pues, objeto de burla y de terror(BL) para todos los que lo rodean». 40 Porque así dice el Señor:

«Como águila volará veloz,
Uno que extenderá sus alas(BM) contra Moab.
41 -»Ha sido tomada Queriot
Y las fortalezas han sido ocupadas;
Será el corazón de los valientes de Moab en aquel día
Como el corazón de una mujer de parto(BN).
42 -»Y Moab será destruida, dejará de ser pueblo(BO)
Porque se engrandeció contra el Señor(BP).
43 -»Terror, foso y lazo vienen sobre ti,
Morador(BQ) de Moab», declara el Señor.
44 «El que huya del terror
Caerá en el foso,
Y el que suba del foso
Caerá en el lazo(BR);
Porque Yo traeré sobre él, sobre Moab,
El año de su castigo(BS)», declara el Señor.
45 ¶«A la sombra de Hesbón(BT)
Se paran sin fuerzas los fugitivos;
Pues ha salido fuego de Hesbón,
Y una llama de en medio de Sehón(BU),
Que ha consumido las sienes de Moab(BV)
Y los cráneos de los hijos del tumulto.
46 -»¡Ay de ti, Moab!
Ha perecido el pueblo de Quemos(BW);
Porque tus hijos han sido tomados en cautiverio,
Y tus hijas en cautividad(BX).
47 -»Pero restauraré el bienestar[ad](BY) de Moab
En los postreros días», declara el Señor.

Hasta aquí, el juicio de Moab.

A Message About Moab(A)

48 Concerning Moab:(B)

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:

“Woe to Nebo,(C) for it will be ruined.
    Kiriathaim(D) will be disgraced and captured;
    the stronghold[a] will be disgraced and shattered.
2 Moab will be praised(E) no more;
    in Heshbon[b](F) people will plot her downfall:
    ‘Come, let us put an end to that nation.’(G)
You, the people of Madmen,[c] will also be silenced;
    the sword will pursue you.
3 Cries of anguish arise from Horonaim,(H)
    cries of great havoc and destruction.
4 Moab will be broken;
    her little ones will cry out.[d]
5 They go up the hill to Luhith,(I)
    weeping bitterly as they go;
on the road down to Horonaim(J)
    anguished cries over the destruction are heard.
6 Flee!(K) Run for your lives;
    become like a bush[e] in the desert.(L)
7 Since you trust in your deeds and riches,(M)
    you too will be taken captive,
and Chemosh(N) will go into exile,(O)
    together with his priests and officials.(P)
8 The destroyer(Q) will come against every town,
    and not a town will escape.
The valley will be ruined
    and the plateau(R) destroyed,
    because the Lord has spoken.
9 Put salt(S) on Moab,
    for she will be laid waste[f];(T)
her towns will become desolate,
    with no one to live in them.

10 “A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord’s work!
    A curse on anyone who keeps their sword(U) from bloodshed!(V)

11 “Moab has been at rest(W) from youth,
    like wine left on its dregs,(X)
not poured from one jar to another—
    she has not gone into exile.
So she tastes as she did,
    and her aroma is unchanged.
12 But days are coming,”
    declares the Lord,
“when I will send men who pour from pitchers,
    and they will pour her out;
they will empty her pitchers
    and smash her jars.
13 Then Moab will be ashamed(Y) of Chemosh,(Z)
    as Israel was ashamed
    when they trusted in Bethel.(AA)

14 “How can you say, ‘We are warriors,(AB)
    men valiant in battle’?
15 Moab will be destroyed and her towns invaded;
    her finest young men(AC) will go down in the slaughter,(AD)”
    declares the King,(AE) whose name is the Lord Almighty.(AF)
16 “The fall of Moab is at hand;(AG)
    her calamity will come quickly.
17 Mourn for her, all who live around her,
    all who know her fame;(AH)
say, ‘How broken is the mighty scepter,(AI)
    how broken the glorious staff!’

18 “Come down from your glory
    and sit on the parched ground,(AJ)
    you inhabitants of Daughter Dibon,(AK)
for the one who destroys Moab
    will come up against you
    and ruin your fortified cities.(AL)
19 Stand by the road and watch,
    you who live in Aroer.(AM)
Ask the man fleeing and the woman escaping,
    ask them, ‘What has happened?’
20 Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered.
    Wail(AN) and cry out!
Announce by the Arnon(AO)
    that Moab is destroyed.
21 Judgment has come to the plateau(AP)—
    to Holon,(AQ) Jahzah(AR) and Mephaath,(AS)
22     to Dibon,(AT) Nebo(AU) and Beth Diblathaim,
23     to Kiriathaim,(AV) Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,(AW)
24     to Kerioth(AX) and Bozrah(AY)—
    to all the towns(AZ) of Moab, far and near.
25 Moab’s horn[g](BA) is cut off;
    her arm(BB) is broken,”
declares the Lord.

26 “Make her drunk,(BC)
    for she has defied(BD) the Lord.
Let Moab wallow in her vomit;(BE)
    let her be an object of ridicule.(BF)
27 Was not Israel the object of your ridicule?(BG)
    Was she caught among thieves,(BH)
that you shake your head(BI) in scorn(BJ)
    whenever you speak of her?
28 Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks,
    you who live in Moab.
Be like a dove(BK) that makes its nest
    at the mouth of a cave.(BL)

29 “We have heard of Moab’s pride(BM)—
    how great is her arrogance!—
of her insolence, her pride, her conceit
    and the haughtiness(BN) of her heart.
30 I know her insolence but it is futile,”
declares the Lord,
    “and her boasts(BO) accomplish nothing.
31 Therefore I wail(BP) over Moab,
    for all Moab I cry out,
    I moan for the people of Kir Hareseth.(BQ)
32 I weep for you, as Jazer(BR) weeps,
    you vines of Sibmah.(BS)
Your branches spread as far as the sea[h];
    they reached as far as[i] Jazer.
The destroyer has fallen
    on your ripened fruit and grapes.
33 Joy and gladness are gone
    from the orchards and fields of Moab.
I have stopped the flow of wine(BT) from the presses;
    no one treads them with shouts of joy.(BU)
Although there are shouts,
    they are not shouts of joy.

34 “The sound of their cry rises
    from Heshbon(BV) to Elealeh(BW) and Jahaz,(BX)
from Zoar(BY) as far as Horonaim(BZ) and Eglath Shelishiyah,
    for even the waters of Nimrim are dried up.(CA)
35 In Moab I will put an end
    to those who make offerings on the high places(CB)
    and burn incense(CC) to their gods,”
declares the Lord.
36 “So my heart laments(CD) for Moab like the music of a pipe;
    it laments like a pipe for the people of Kir Hareseth.(CE)
    The wealth they acquired(CF) is gone.
37 Every head is shaved(CG)
    and every beard(CH) cut off;
every hand is slashed
    and every waist is covered with sackcloth.(CI)
38 On all the roofs in Moab
    and in the public squares(CJ)
there is nothing but mourning,
    for I have broken Moab
    like a jar(CK) that no one wants,”
declares the Lord.
39 “How shattered(CL) she is! How they wail!
    How Moab turns her back in shame!
Moab has become an object of ridicule,(CM)
    an object of horror to all those around her.”

40 This is what the Lord says:

“Look! An eagle is swooping(CN) down,
    spreading its wings(CO) over Moab.
41 Kerioth[j](CP) will be captured
    and the strongholds taken.
In that day the hearts of Moab’s warriors(CQ)
    will be like the heart of a woman in labor.(CR)
42 Moab will be destroyed(CS) as a nation(CT)
    because she defied(CU) the Lord.
43 Terror(CV) and pit and snare(CW) await you,
    you people of Moab,”
declares the Lord.
44 “Whoever flees(CX) from the terror
    will fall into a pit,
whoever climbs out of the pit
    will be caught in a snare;
for I will bring on Moab
    the year(CY) of her punishment,”
declares the Lord.

45 “In the shadow of Heshbon
    the fugitives stand helpless,
for a fire has gone out from Heshbon,
    a blaze from the midst of Sihon;(CZ)
it burns the foreheads of Moab,
    the skulls(DA) of the noisy boasters.
46 Woe to you, Moab!(DB)
    The people of Chemosh are destroyed;
your sons are taken into exile
    and your daughters into captivity.

47 “Yet I will restore(DC) the fortunes of Moab
    in days to come,”
declares the Lord.

Here ends the judgment on Moab.
