²⁹ And he named him Noah,^[a] saying, “This one will bring us relief from the agonizing labor of our hands, caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.”^(A)

²⁰ For the creation was subjected^(A) to futility^(B)—not willingly, but because of him who subjected it^(C)—in the hope ²¹ that the creation itself^(D) will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children. ²² For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains^(E) until now.

⁸ But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and about to be cursed, and at the end will be burned.^(A)
