²⁸ These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this is what their father said to them. He blessed them, and he blessed each one with a suitable blessing.

⁴ And Moses wrote^(A) down all the words of the Lord. He rose early the next morning and set up an altar and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel at the base of the mountain.

The Borders of the Land

¹³ This is what the Lord God says: “This is^[a] the border you will use to divide the land^(A) as an inheritance for the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph will receive two shares.^(B)

¹² The city had a massive high wall, with twelve gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the twelve tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates.
