¹⁵ Then the Lord replied to him, “In that case,^[a] whoever kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” And he placed a mark^(A) on Cain so that whoever found him would not kill him.

¹³ The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a distinguishing mark for you; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will be among you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

⁴ “Pass throughout the city of Jerusalem,” the Lord said to him, “and put a mark on the foreheads^(A) of the men who sigh and groan^(B) over all the detestable practices committed in it.”

⁶ Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, as well as the children and older women,^(A) but do not come near anyone who has the mark.^(B) Begin at my sanctuary.”^(C) So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.

¹⁶ And it makes everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,^(A)

² The first went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and severely painful sores^(A) broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped its image.

²⁰ But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with it the false prophet, who had performed the signs in its presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image with these signs.^(A) Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.^(B)
