Cain Murders Abel

4 The man was intimate with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, “I have had a male child with the Lord’s help.”^[a]

The Line of Cain

¹⁷ Cain was intimate with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. Then Cain became the builder of a city, and he named the city Enoch after his son.

² “Consecrate every firstborn male^(A) to me, the firstborn from every womb among the Israelites, both man and domestic animal; it is mine.”

³⁹ At the end of two months, she returned to her father, and he kept the vow he had made about her. And she had never been intimate with a man. Now it became a custom in Israel

Samuel’s Birth and Dedication

¹⁹ The next morning Elkanah and Hannah got up early to worship before the Lord. Afterward, they returned home to Ramah.^(A) Then Elkanah was intimate with his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her.^(B)

⁷ Then she gave birth to her firstborn son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger,^[a] because there was no guest room available for them.
