²⁹ Now Reuben returned to the pit, and behold, Joseph was not in the pit; so he ^(A)tore his garments.

³⁴ So Jacob ^(A)tore his clothes, and put on a sackcloth undergarment over his waist, and mourned for his son many days.

⁶ Then Joshua ^(A)tore his clothes and fell to the ground on his face before the ark of the Lord until the evening, both he and the elders of Israel; and ^(B)they put dust on their heads.

²⁷ “^(A)Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before Me, tore your clothes, and wept before Me, I have indeed heard you,” declares the Lord.

³ When I heard about this matter, I ^(A)tore my garment and my robe, and pulled out some of the hair from my head and my beard, and ^(B)sat down ^[a]appalled.
