Genesis 34:14-16

¹⁴And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised, for among us that is a reproach.

¹⁵But with this condition we will consent unto you: If ye will become as we are that every male of you be circumcised,

¹⁶then we will give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

¹⁴They said to them, “We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised.^(A) That would be a disgrace to us. ¹⁵We will enter into an agreement with you on one condition^(B) only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.^(C) ¹⁶Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves.^(D) We’ll settle among you and become one people with you.^(E)
