11 He happened upon a certain place and spent the night there, for the sun had set. So he took one of the stones from the place and put it by his head and lay down in that place. 12 He dreamed: All of a sudden, there was a stairway set up on the earth and its top reaching to the heavens—and behold, angels of God going up and down on it! 13 Surprisingly, Adonai was standing on top of it[a] and He said, “I am Adonai, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your seed.

11 When he reached a certain place,(A) he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head(B) and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream(C) in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.(D) 13 There above it[a] stood the Lord,(E) and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.(F) I will give you and your descendants the land(G) on which you are lying.(H)
