⁸ Abraham breathed his last and died ^(A)in a ^[a]ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life; and he was ^(B)gathered to his people.

²⁹ Isaac breathed his last and died and was ^(A)gathered to his people, an ^(B)old man ^[a]of ripe age; and ^(C)his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

³⁸ But ^[a]Jacob said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his ^(A)brother is dead, and he alone is left. ^(B)If harm should befall him on the journey ^[b]you are taking, then you will ^(C)bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.”

²⁹ If you take this one also from ^[a]me, and harm befalls him, you will ^(A)bring my gray hair down to Sheol in ^[b]sorrow.’

³¹ when he sees that the lad is not with us, he will die. Thus your servants will ^(A)bring the gray hair of your servant our father down to Sheol in sorrow.
