¹⁴ May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink,^(A) and I’ll water your camels too’^(B)—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac.^(C) By this I will know^(D) that you have shown kindness to my master.”

³¹ But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon^(A) to ask him about the miraculous sign^(B) that had occurred in the land, God left him to test^(C) him and to know everything that was in his heart.

¹¹ “Ask the Lord your God for a sign,^(A) whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.^(B)”

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you^[a] a sign:^(A) The virgin^[b](B) will conceive and give birth to a son,^(C) and^[c] will call him Immanuel.^[d](D)

³ Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant^(A) Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years,^(B) as a sign^(C) and portent^(D) against Egypt^(E) and Cush,^[a](F)
