⁷ Now ^(A)the angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to ^(B)Shur. ⁸ He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, ^(C)where have you come from and where are you going?” And she said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.” ⁹ Then the angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself ^[a]to her authority.” ¹⁰ Moreover, the ^(D)angel of the Lord said to her, “^(E)I will greatly multiply your ^[b]descendants so that ^[c]they will be too many to count.” ¹¹ The angel of the Lord said to her further,

¹⁷ God ^(A)heard the lad crying; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter with you, Hagar? ^(B)Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. ¹⁸ Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by ^[a]the hand, ^(C)for I will make a great nation of him.”
