¹³ God said to Abram, “Know for certain that ^(A)your ^[a]descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, ^[b]where ^(B)they will be enslaved and oppressed ^(C)four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out ^(D)with ^[c]many possessions.

⁴⁰ Now the time ^[a]that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was ^(A)four hundred and thirty years. ⁴¹ And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, ^[b]to ^(B)the very day, ^(C)all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.

⁶ But ^(A)God spoke to this effect, that his descendants would be aliens in a foreign land, and that they would ^[a]be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years. ⁷ ‘And whatever nation to which they will be in bondage I Myself will judge,’ said God, ‘and ^(B)after that they will come out and ^[b]serve Me in this place.’
