¹² When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”^(A)

³⁶ And as for those of you who survive, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; the sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall though no one pursues.^(A)

²⁰ Your strength shall be spent to no purpose: your land shall not yield its produce, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.^(A)

²³ The sky over your head shall be bronze and the earth under you iron.^{(A) 24} The Lord will change the rain of your land into powder, and only dust shall come down upon you from the sky until you are destroyed.

²⁰ for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

³ The next morning when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord has named you not Pashhur but ‘Terror-all-around.’ ⁴ For thus says the Lord: I am making you a terror to yourself and to all your friends, and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. ⁶⁵ Among those nations you shall find no ease, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a languishing spirit.^{(A) 66} Your life shall hang in doubt before you; night and day you shall be in dread, with no assurance of your life.

¹⁴ Today you have driven me away from the soil, and I shall be hidden from your face; I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and anyone who meets me may kill me.”^(A)
