²² “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern^(A) here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.^(B)

Peter’s Miraculous Escape From Prison

12 It was about this time that King Herod^(A) arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar^(A) was starting, he took water and washed his hands^(B) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”^(C) he said. “It is your responsibility!”^(D)

⁹ You must certainly put them to death.^(A) Your hand^(B) must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people.

¹¹ But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw^(A) God, and they ate and drank.^(B)

²² Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy?^(A) But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting^(B) for his blood.”^(C)

¹² “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God,^(A) because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.^(B)”
