²⁵ The sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maid: Dan and Naphtali.

²³ The children of Dan: Hashum.^{[a](A) 24} The children of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.^{(B) 25} These are the children of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and these she bore to Jacob—seven persons in all.^(C)

² These are the descendants of Jacob.

Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers; he was a helper to the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives, and Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.

⁴ So she gave him her maid Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her.^{(A) 5} And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. ⁶ Then Rachel said, “God has judged me and has also heard my voice and given me a son”; therefore she named him Dan.^{[a](B) 7} Rachel’s maid Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. ⁸ Then Rachel said, “With mighty wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister and have prevailed,” so she named him Naphtali.^[b](C)
