Ishmael’s Sons^(A)

¹² This is the account^(B) of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Sarah’s slave, Hagar^(C) the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.^(D)

¹³ I will make the son of the slave into a nation^(A) also, because he is your offspring.”

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.^(A) He will be the father of twelve rulers,^(B) and I will make him into a great nation.^(C)

¹⁰ The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”^(A)

¹¹ The angel of the Lord^(B) also said to her:

¹³ She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,^(I)” for she said, “I have now seen^[c] the One who sees me.”^{(J) 14} That is why the well^(K) was called Beer Lahai Roi^[d];^(L) it is still there, between Kadesh^(M) and Bered.

¹⁵ So Hagar^(N) bore Abram a son,^(O) and Abram gave the name Ishmael^(P) to the son she had borne.
