³ Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, ^(A)Isaac.^[a]

¹⁹ God said, “No, but ^(A)Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name ^(B)Isaac.^[a] I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

⁷ and not all are children of Abraham ^(A)because they are his offspring, but ^(B)“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”

⁶ And Sarah said, ^(A)“God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me.”

¹⁸ of whom it was said, ^(A)“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”

^2 (A)Abraham was the father of Isaac, and ^(B)Isaac the father of Jacob, and ^(C)Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

^3 (A)Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River^[a] and ^(B)led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. ^(C)I gave him Isaac.

⁸ And ^(A)he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And ^(B)so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and ^(C)circumcised him on the eighth day, and ^(D)Isaac became the father of Jacob, and ^(E)Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

² He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to ^(A)the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

¹² But God said to Abraham, “Be not displeased because of the boy and because of your slave woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for ^(A)through Isaac shall your offspring be named.
