¹⁰ Now the Valley of Siddim^(A) was full of tar^(B) pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah^(C) fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.^(D)

¹⁷ As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives!^(A) Don’t look back,^(B) and don’t stop anywhere in the plain!^(C) Flee to the mountains^(D) or you will be swept away!”

Lot and His Daughters

³⁰ Lot and his two daughters left Zoar^(A) and settled in the mountains,^(B) for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.

³ They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks^(A) and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone,^(B) and tar^(C) for mortar.

²⁴ When Israel had finished killing all the men of Ai in the fields and in the wilderness where they had chased them, and when every one of them had been put to the sword, all the Israelites returned to Ai and killed those who were in it.
