18 A son retour de Paddan-Aram, Jacob arriva heureusement à la ville de Sichem, dans le pays de Canaan, et il campa devant la ville. 19 Il acheta la portion du champ où il avait dressé sa tente, des fils de Hamor, père de Sichem, pour cent kesita[a]. 20 Et là, il éleva un autel, qu’il appela El-Elohé-Israël[b].

Jacob Comes to Canaan
18 Then Jacob came [a]safely to (A)the city of (B)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city. 19 And (C)he bought the parcel of [b]land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. 20 Then he erected an altar there and called it (D)El[c] Elohe Israel.

18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram,[a](A) he arrived safely at the city of Shechem(B) in Canaan and camped within sight of the city. 19 For a hundred pieces of silver,[b] he bought from the sons of Hamor,(C) the father of Shechem,(D) the plot of ground(E) where he pitched his tent.(F) 20 There he set up an altar(G) and called it El Elohe Israel.[c]
