Dios bendice a Jacob en Betel
35 Dios le dijo a Jacob:
«Prepárate para ir a Betel y quedarte allí. En Betel harás un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»(A)
2 Entonces Jacob dijo a su familia y a todos los que estaban con él:
«Desháganse de los dioses ajenos que hay entre ustedes; purifíquense y cámbiense de ropa, 3 y preparémonos para ir a Betel. Allí haré un altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia, y que me ha acompañado por dondequiera que he andado.»
4 Ellos le entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que había en su poder, y los zarcillos que llevaban en las orejas; y Jacob los enterró bajo la encina que estaba cerca de Siquén.
5 Cuando salieron, el terror de Dios cayó sobre las ciudades de los alrededores, y nadie persiguió a los hijos de Jacob. 6 Jacob y todo el pueblo que estaba con él llegaron a Luz (es decir, Betel), ciudad que está en la tierra de Canaán, 7 y Jacob edificó un altar, y a ese lugar lo llamó El Betel,[a] porque allí se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano. 8 Allí murió Débora, nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada al pie de Betel, debajo de la encina, la cual fue llamada Alón Bacut.[b]
9 Una vez más, Dios se le apareció a Jacob cuando volvió de Padán Aram, y lo bendijo. 10 Le dijo Dios:
«Tu nombre es Jacob. Pero ya no te llamarás Jacob;(B) ahora tu nombre será Israel.»
Y ése fue su nombre. 11 Y Dios también le dijo:
«Yo soy el Dios omnipotente. Reprodúcete y multiplícate. De ti saldrá una nación, y reyes, y un conjunto de naciones. 12 La tierra que les he dado a Abrahán y a Isaac, te la daré a ti, y a tu descendencia después de ti.»(C)
13 Después Dios se apartó de Jacob y del lugar donde había hablado con él. 14 En ese lugar Jacob levantó una señal de piedra, y como libación derramó aceite sobre ella. 15 Al lugar donde Dios había hablado con él, Jacob le puso por nombre Betel.(D)
Muerte de Raquel
16 Después partieron de Betel. Pero aún estaban como a media legua de distancia de Efrata, cuando Raquel dio a luz,(E) y tuvo un parto difícil. 17 Entre las dificultades de su parto, la partera le dijo: «No tengas miedo, que también tendrás este hijo.»
18 Cuando Raquel exhalaba el último suspiro (pues murió), le puso por nombre Benoní;[c] pero su padre lo llamó Benjamín.[d] 19 Y Raquel murió y fue sepultada en el camino de Efrata, que también es Belén. 20 Sobre su sepultura, Jacob levantó un pilar, que hasta el día de hoy es la señal de la sepultura de Raquel. 21 Y partió Israel de allí, y plantó su tienda más allá de Migdal Edar. 22 Mientras Israel vivía en aquella tierra, Rubén fue y durmió con Bilá, la concubina de su padre. Pero esto llegó a oídos de Israel.
Los hijos de Jacob(F)
Los hijos de Israel fueron doce: 23 los hijos de Lea: Rubén, el primogénito de Jacob; Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón. 24 Los hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín. 25 Los hijos de Bilá, sierva de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí. 26 Los hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad y Aser. Éstos fueron los hijos que le nacieron a Jacob en Padán Aram.
Muerte de Isaac
27 Jacob fue a visitar a Isaac, su padre, en Mamre, es decir, la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abrahán e Isaac.(G) 28 Isaac llegó a vivir ciento ochenta años, 29 y exhaló el espíritu siendo anciano y lleno de días. Murió y fue reunido con su pueblo, y sus hijos Esaú y Jacob lo sepultaron.

Jacob’s Return to Bethel
35 Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to (A)Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, (B)who appeared to you (C)when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
2 And Jacob said to his (D)household and to all who were with him, “Put away (E)the foreign gods that are among you, (F)purify yourselves, and change your garments. 3 Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, (G)who answered me in the day of my distress (H)and has been with me in the way which I have gone.” 4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign [a]gods which were in their hands, and the (I)earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under (J)the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.
5 And they journeyed, and (K)the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob. 6 So Jacob came to (L)Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him. 7 And he (M)built an altar there and called the place [b]El Bethel, because (N)there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.
8 Now (O)Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called [c]Allon Bachuth.
9 Then (P)God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and (Q)blessed him. 10 And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; (R)your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, (S)but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel. 11 Also God said to him: (T)“I am God Almighty. (U)Be fruitful and multiply; (V)a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body. 12 The (W)land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.” 13 Then God (X)went[d] up from him in the place where He talked with him. 14 So Jacob (Y)set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it. 15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, (Z)Bethel.
Death of Rachel
16 Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor. 17 Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; (AA)you will have this son also.” 18 And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name [e]Ben-Oni; but his father called him [f]Benjamin. 19 So (AB)Rachel died and was buried on the way to (AC)Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). 20 And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave (AD)to this day.
21 Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond (AE)the tower of Eder. 22 And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and (AF)lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it.
Jacob’s Twelve Sons
Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: 23 the sons of Leah were (AG)Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun; 24 the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin; 25 the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali; 26 and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.
Death of Isaac
27 Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at (AH)Mamre, or (AI)Kirjath Arba[g] (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt. 28 Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years. 29 So Isaac breathed his last and died, and (AJ)was [h]gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And (AK)his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
