¹¹ “Ephraim is like a dove,^(A)
    easily deceived and senseless—
now calling to Egypt,^(B)
    now turning to Assyria.^(C)

⁵ The people who live in Samaria fear
    for the calf-idol^(A) of Beth Aven.^[a](B)
Its people will mourn over it,
    and so will its idolatrous priests,^(C)
those who had rejoiced over its splendor,
    because it is taken from them into exile.^(D)

“‘Your wife will become a prostitute^(A) in the city,
    and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword.
Your land will be measured and divided up,
    and you yourself will die in a pagan^[a] country.
And Israel will surely go into exile,^(B)
    away from their native land.^(C)’”
