En klagesang over Tyrus
27 Herren sagde til mig: 2 „Du menneske, syng følgende klagesang over Tyrus, 3 den store havneby, der driver handel med et utal af lande. Hør hvad Herren siger:
Tyrus, du praler af din skønhed,
du ser dig selv som et fornemt skib.[a]
4 Du hersker på de store have,
skibstømrerne frembragte et mesterværk.
5 Dine planker var af fyrretræ fra Hermonbjerget,
din mast var et cedertræ fra Libanons skove.
6 Dine årer blev udskåret af egetræ fra Bashan,
dækket var af buksbom fra Cypern med indlagt elfenben.[b]
7 Sejlene var lavet af linned fra Egypten,
vævet i flotte farver og mønstre.
Soltaget var vævet i rødt med kostbart purpur,
hentet fra Elishas land.[c]
8 Dine roere kom fra Sidon og Arvad,
men skibsofficererne var dine egne folk.
9 Eksperter og bødkere fra Byblos
var parate til at udbedre revner og huller.
Handelsskibe fra hele verden
handlede med deres varer hos dig.
10 Folk fra Persien, Lydien og Libyen
tjente i din hær som heltemodige krigere.
Deres hjelme og skjolde var et imponerende syn,
de gav dig berømmelse og ære.
11 Folk fra Arvad stod vagt på din mur,
dine egne tapre krigere bemandede fæstningstårnene.
Skjoldene hang i rad og række på muren
og gjorde din skønhed fuldkommen.
12 Helt fra Tarshish kom der handelsfolk for at købe dine varer og betale med sølv, jern, tin eller bly. 13 Købmænd fra Grækenland, Tubal og Meshek bragte dig slaver og bronzekar. 14 Fra Bet-Togarma[d] kom arbejdsheste, krigsheste og muldyr.
15 Folk fra Dedan transporterede varer fra de mange kystlande, som var dine handelspartnere. De betalte med ibenholt og elfenben. 16 Aram sendte handelsfolk for at opkøbe dine varer. De bragte ædelsten, purpurfarver, broderier og fintvævet linned, koralsmykker og rubiner. 17 Juda og de byer, som engang udgjorde kongeriget Israel, sendte købmænd med hvede fra Minnit, foruden kager, honning, olie og balsam. 18 Folk fra Damaskus kom også og bragte vin fra Helbon samt hvid uld i bytte for mange slags varer. 19 Grækere fra Uzal kom med smedejern, kassia og kalmus, 20 og fra Dedan kom man med kostbare sadeltæpper.
21 Arabere og Kedars stormænd kom med lam, væddere og geder. 22 Opkøbere fra Saba og Oman gav krydderier, ædelsten og guld i bytte for dine varer. 23 Der kom varer fra Karan, Kalne og Eden, og handelsfolk fra Saba bragte ting fra Ashur og Kilmad: 24 smukke purpurfarvede og broderede klæder, kapper og stoffer, farvede tæpper med flettede snore af høj kvalitet. 25 Det var de store Tarshish-skibe, der skabte din handel og rigdom.
Du var selv som et tungtlastet skib
midt ude på det store hav.
26 Slaverne roede ud i rum sø,
hvor østenstormen knuste dig.
27 Du led skibbrud og mistede alting:
dine kostbare varer, al din rigdom,
dine roere og søfolk,
skibstømrere og handelsmænd,
soldater og passagerer.
Alt sank i dybet på ulykkens dag.
28 Ved dine sømænds dødsskrig
ryster fastlandet af skræk.
29 Alle rorkarle går fra borde,
alle søfolk bliver på land.
30 De græder og sørger over din skæbne,
fortvivlet kaster de jord på hovedet,
31 i sorg rager de håret af
og klæder sig i sæk og aske.
De klager hjerteskærende,
tynget af sorg og gru.
32 De synger en dødsklage over dig:
‚Var der nogensinde en by som Tyrus,
der nu ligger tavs i ruiner?’
33 Dine varer blev værdsat af mange nationer,
jordens konger blev rige på grund af dig.
34 Men du led skibbrud derude på havet,
både varer og mandskab sank ned i dybet.
35 Kystlandene er chokerede over din skæbne,
kongerne græmmer sig og blegner af skræk.
36 Alverdens handelsfolk fløjter i forundring
over din totale og endelige udslettelse.”

27 The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;
3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord God; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.
4 Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.
5 They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.
6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.
7 Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered thee.
8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
9 The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise.
10 They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.
11 The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.
12 Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.
13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.
14 They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.
15 The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and ebony.
16 Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.
17 Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.
18 Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.
19 Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.
20 Dedan was thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots.
21 Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants.
22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.
23 Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants.
24 These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.
25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.
26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.
27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
28 The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.
29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;
30 And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:
31 And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.
32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.
34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.
35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.
36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

27 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying, 2 “Now, son of man, (A)take up a lamentation for Tyre, 3 and say to Tyre, (B)‘You who [a]are situated at the entrance of the sea, (C)merchant of the peoples on many coastlands, thus says the Lord God:
“O Tyre, you have said,
(D)‘I am perfect in beauty.’
4 Your borders are in the midst of the seas.
Your builders have perfected your beauty.
5 They [b]made all your planks of fir trees from (E)Senir;
They took a cedar from Lebanon to make you a mast.
6 Of (F)oaks from Bashan they made your oars;
The company of Ashurites have inlaid your planks
With ivory from (G)the coasts of [c]Cyprus.
7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was what you spread for your sail;
Blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was what covered you.
8 “Inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen;
Your wise men, O Tyre, were in you;
They became your pilots.
9 Elders of (H)Gebal and its wise men
Were in you to caulk your seams;
All the ships of the sea
And their oarsmen were in you
To market your merchandise.
10 “Those from Persia, [d]Lydia, and [e]Libya
Were in your army as men of war;
They hung shield and helmet in you;
They gave splendor to you.
11 Men of Arvad with your army were on your walls all around,
And the men of Gammad were in your towers;
They hung their shields on your walls all around;
They made (I)your beauty perfect.
12 (J)“Tarshish was your merchant because of your many luxury goods. They gave you silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods. 13 (K)Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders. They bartered (L)human lives and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. 14 Those from the house of (M)Togarmah traded for your wares with horses, steeds, and mules. 15 The men of (N)Dedan were your traders; many isles were the market of your hand. They brought you ivory tusks and ebony as payment. 16 Syria was your merchant because of the abundance of goods you made. They gave you for your wares emeralds, purple, embroidery, fine linen, corals, and rubies. 17 Judah and the land of Israel were your traders. They traded for your merchandise wheat of (O)Minnith, millet, honey, oil, and (P)balm. 18 Damascus was your merchant because of the abundance of goods you made, because of your many luxury items, with the wine of Helbon and with white wool. 19 Dan and Javan paid for your wares, [f]traversing back and forth. Wrought iron, cassia, and cane were among your merchandise. 20 (Q)Dedan was your merchant in saddlecloths for riding. 21 Arabia and all the princes of (R)Kedar were your regular merchants. They traded with you in lambs, rams, and goats. 22 The merchants of (S)Sheba and Raamah were your merchants. They traded for your wares the choicest spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold. 23 (T)Haran, Canneh, Eden, the merchants of (U)Sheba, Assyria, and Chilmad were your merchants. 24 These were your merchants in choice items—in purple clothes, in embroidered garments, in chests of multicolored apparel, in sturdy woven cords, which were in your marketplace.
25 “The (V)ships of Tarshish were carriers of your merchandise.
You were filled and very glorious (W)in the midst of the seas.
26 Your oarsmen brought you into many waters,
But (X)the east wind broke you in the midst of the seas.
27 “Your (Y)riches, wares, and merchandise,
Your mariners and pilots,
Your caulkers and merchandisers,
All your men of war who are in you,
And the entire company which is in your midst,
Will fall into the midst of the seas on the day of your ruin.
28 The (Z)common-land[g] will shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots.
29 “All (AA)who handle the oar,
The mariners,
All the pilots of the sea
Will come down from their ships and stand on the [h]shore.
30 They will make their voice heard because of you;
They will cry bitterly and (AB)cast dust on their heads;
They (AC)will roll about in ashes;
31 They will (AD)shave themselves completely bald because of you,
Gird themselves with sackcloth,
And weep for you
With bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.
32 In their wailing for you

And lament for you:

Destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 ‘When(AG) your wares went out by sea,
You satisfied many people;
You enriched the kings of the earth

Their kings will be greatly afraid,

“O Tyre, you have said,
‘I am (E)perfect in beauty.’
4 Your borders are (F)in the heart of the seas;
your builders made perfect your beauty.
5 They made all your planks
of fir trees from (G)Senir;
they took (H)a cedar from Lebanon
to make a mast for you.
6 Of (I)oaks of Bashan
they made your oars;
they made your deck of pines
from (J)the coasts of Cyprus,
inlaid with ivory.
7 (K)Of fine embroidered linen from Egypt
was your sail,
serving as your banner;
blue and purple from (L)the coasts of Elishah
was your awning.

into the high seas.

in the heart of the seas.
27 Your riches, your wares, your merchandise,
your mariners and (BH)your pilots,
(BI)your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise,
and all your men of war who are in you,
with all your crew
that is in your midst,
sink into the heart of the seas
(BJ)on the day of your fall.
28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots
(BK)the countryside shakes,
29 and down from their ships
(BL)come all who handle the oar.
The mariners and all the pilots of the sea
stand on the land
30 (BM)and shout aloud over you
and cry out bitterly.
(BN)They cast dust on their heads
(BO)and wallow in ashes;
31 they (BP)make themselves bald for you
and put sackcloth on their waist,
and they weep over you in bitterness of soul,
with bitter mourning.
32 In their wailing they (BQ)raise a lamentation for you
and lament over you:
(BR)‘Who is like Tyre,
like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 When your wares came from the seas,
(BS)you satisfied many peoples;
with your abundant wealth and merchandise
(BT)you enriched the kings of the earth.
34 Now (BU)you are wrecked by the seas,
in the depths of the waters;
your merchandise and all your crew in your midst
have sunk with you.
35 (BV)All the inhabitants of the coastlands
are appalled at you,
and (BW)the hair of their kings bristles with horror;
their faces are convulsed.
36 (BX)The merchants among the peoples (BY)hiss at you;
(BZ)you have come to a dreadful end
and shall be no more forever.’”
