⁴ “Now lie on your left side and place the sins of Israel on yourself. You are to bear their sins for the number of days you lie there on your side.

²² As the goat goes into the wilderness, it will carry all the people’s sins upon itself into a desolate land.

⁸ I will tie you up with ropes so you won’t be able to turn from side to side until the days of your siege have been completed.

Duties of Priests and Levites

18 Then the Lord said to Aaron: “You, your sons, and your relatives from the tribe of Levi will be held responsible for any offenses related to the sanctuary. But you and your sons alone will be held responsible for violations connected with the priesthood.

¹⁷ “Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sacred area?” he demanded. “It is a holy offering! The Lord has given it to you to remove the guilt of the community and to purify the people, making them right with the Lord.^[a]

²⁸ so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

¹⁷ This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said,

⁵ I am requiring you to bear Israel’s sins for 390 days—one day for each year of their sin.
