¹² For ^(A)seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order ^(B)to cleanse the land.

^23 (A)his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for ^(B)a hanged man is cursed by God. ^(C)You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.

¹⁴ They will set apart men to travel through the land regularly and bury those travelers remaining on the face of the land, so as ^(A)to cleanse it. At^[a] the end of ^(B)seven months they will make their search.

¹⁶ (Hamonah^[a] is also the name of the city.) Thus shall they cleanse the land.

^16 (A)Whoever in the open field touches someone who was killed with a sword or who died naturally, or touches a human bone or a ^(B)grave, shall be unclean seven days.
